Cycle Time Calculator — Manufacturing Cycle Time
Calculate average cycle time from total production time and units produced.
Cycle Time
66.67 s
Cycle Time
1.111 min
Units / Hour
54
Formula
**Cycle Time Formula**
Cycle Time = Total Production Time ÷ Units Produced
Units Per Hour = 3,600 ÷ Cycle Time (seconds)
Worked Example
**Example:** 480-minute shift, 432 units produced
Cycle Time = (480×60) ÷ 432 = 28,800 ÷ 432 = **66.7 seconds**
Units Per Hour = 3,600 ÷ 66.7 = **54 units/hour**
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between cycle time and lead time?
Cycle time is the time to complete one unit during active production. Lead time is total time from order to delivery, including waiting and inspection.
If my cycle time is shorter than takt time, is that good?
Yes. It means your line can meet demand and you have buffer capacity. If cycle time exceeds takt time, you have a bottleneck.
How do I reduce cycle time?
Eliminate non-value-added steps, balance workloads across stations, parallelize operations, reduce changeovers, and improve material flow.
